Bridge
March 9, 2000
I got to the corner and turned left on fourteenth street. At the end of the block I found a canyon where tenth avenue
should have been. This upset me. The bakery was on the other side of the canyon. The canyon was one hundred yards deep.
The canyon was thirty feet wide. Luckily there was a suspension bridge stretched across the canyon. The suspension
bridge was thirty feet long. The suspension bridge was one hundred yards tall. I started to cross the bridge along
the right side. There were thirty cables on either side of the bridge. The cables prevented the bridge from falling
into the canyon. The bridge prevented me from falling into the canyon. There were thirty cables. I started to cross on
the right.
The first cable wasn't very long since it was the first cable and
The second cable was longer, or taller rather; I'm not sure which and
The third cable was recognizably cable: steel, thick, braided, and
The fourth cable was made of tin and coated with steel and
The fifth cable was made of steel and coated with foamrubber and
The sixth cable was made of atoms and coated with rhetoric and
The seventh cable worked really hard and was stretched to its limit and
The eigth cable didn't do much and leeched off the seventh and
The ninth cable was animatronic and
The tenth cable smelled like vanilla wafffles and
The eleventh cable had a fox terrier named Mikey and
The twelfth cable had a DVD player but still had lots of tapes and
The thirteenth cable was kinda sleepy and
The fourteenth cable I don't want ot talk about and
The fifteenth cable drank manhattans and vodka tonics and
The sixteenth cable thought it was a big shot and
The seventeenth cable looked a bit like Winston Churchill and
The eighteenth cable had a sitcom in syndication and
The nineteenth cable was in love with the tenth and would sometimes peer over the
side and try to catch a glance but never said anything and
The twentieth cable got a helicopter for its birthday and
The twentyfirst cable was true and
The twentysecond cable was a hit song from 1972 that I love but have forgotten most of the words to and
The twentythird cable was starting to get a bit irritated and
The twentyfourth cable had a pelvis and
The twentyfifth cable I didn't see and
The twentysixth cable took up a lot of time that should have been spent worrying and
The twentyseventh cable wasn't very good but had a great cast and
The twentyeighth cable had been done before and
The twentyninth cable was very sorry about all that and
The thirtieth cable snapped and
The bridge collapsed into the canyon but I was already on the other side, so I went into
the bakery and got a slice of cherry
pie and sat down with yesterday's Post, chewing.
